But surprisingly, I don't like to clean. Now, don't start thinking I have piles of laundry or dirty dishes lying around... that would break my organization rules. I have no problem doing laundry, dishes, even cleaning the bathroom on occasion. What I can't stand is cleaning floors and dusting. I will avoid those things like the plague. And then one day I'll look down at the floor and notice dust bunnies of Ava's hair in the corners of the entryway. How did that happen? I just vacuumed and mopped... um wait, when was the last time I did that?
I determined that I dislike cleaning because I wait until it becomes an unmanageable project that requires an entire day to complete. And then I'm mad I've just spent an entire day of my weekend cleaning... or more likely, I just keep putting it off.
So I decided to put my obsessive organization and list-making skills to good work... with a cleaning schedule and checklist! I started thinking that I might be able to keep up with it if I break it down into smaller tasks and complete one or two each day, rather than waiting and trying to do it all in one day. And if it's on a checklist, I'll have to do it right?

I especially like my clip art pick. The look of distress on her face sums up my feelings on cleaning. |
I have to admit, I didn't come up with my checklist all on my own. I started by Google-ing cleaning schedules and checklists, reviewed quite a few, and finally found one on a blog called She Makes a Home that I used as the inspiration for mine.
So by now you are either curious about how things are going with my new cleaning schedule and checklist or you are thinking I'm a loon and you're not sure why you are still reading this. I'm going to assume the former and keep going... Well, the first two weeks went great! I was motivated, excited about my new plan, and wondering why I never thought of this before. And then last week happened... Last week did not go so well. I got a little off track. A lot off track... the only thing I accomplished was laundry. Oops.
But don't fret! I'm back on schedule this week... I even dusted my ceiling fans and cleaned the refrigerator and freezer! Amazing I know. But let's not get too excited yet, the week is still early. I have plenty of time to put things off until next week again.
I am slightly OCD as well and love having everything organized and in it's place. I sometimes actually like cleaning but find myself spending way too much time doing it, and then being bummed when my weekend is over and all I got accomplished was cleaning. I need to start a weekly schedule so I can break it up over the week. Thanks for sharing your list :)
ReplyDeleteWill you come dust my ceiling fans? They need it.
