Bathroom Makeover

When I moved into my first house last year I was so excited about being able to do whatever I wanted with it. I could paint, rip out carpet, change fixtures... anything I wanted! Well here we are 16 months later and I've done nothing.

Okay, that's not entirely true. I've hung curtains, art, and even changed the kitchen faucet. But I haven't touched the big projects I envisioned doing with a ten foot pole, like painting, replacing the carpet with hardwoods, hanging a new chandelier in the dining room, or reversing the laundry room door so I could setup a sewing work area.

Well the time of inaction is over! I'm finally starting with a guest bathroom makeover. The guest bathroom is functional so this project will not involve any major demolition. But there will be painting (lots of it!), new fixtures, and a new mirror.

Right now I'm still in the design and idea phase of the makeover. Over the past few weeks I've browsed (online and in person) at different paints, faucets, towel bars, towels, cabinet knobs, and mirrors. As I found things I liked, I took pictures and posted them to a photostream I shared with my step-mom  (Shameless Apple plug alert: If you have never setup a photostream, I highly recommend it! You'll see why in a minute.) My step-mom is a phenomenal interior designer but lives 1200 miles away in Wisconsin, which proves difficult when I need her keen design sense. With the photostream she was able to see all my pictures as I added them and make comments on them, which has helped refine some of my picks for the makeover.

And here they are...

Concert Hall is my paint choice for the walls and ceiling and Blind Date will go on the cabinetry. My accent colors will be white and chrome. The towels and shower curtain are finds from World Market.

The faucet and towel bar are Lowe's finds. And after searching numerous stores for the right mirror that wouldn't break my budget, the final mirror pick came from my master bedroom closet. I forgot I even had it and its a perfect fit! Free definitely works for my budget.

The only thing left to pick out is cabinet knobs, a lighting fixture, and bun feet (to make the cabinetry appear a little fancier). I hope to finalize the design and start the actual makeover in a few weeks so stay tuned!
